Nevertheless, the album is an amazing one, and this video does an okay job of keeping my attention for an hour. Actually, I take that back, I learned that the gossip was true, U2 is incredibly vain.

This is something that was accomplished in a much greater way with the Rattle and Hum video (which is amazing if you haven't seen it). There were four different configurations: a single CD. To celebrate the occasion, the band issued a remastered version of the album (sourced from the original analogue tapes), along with a host of associated bonus material. By the end of the short 'hour of bragging', oops, I mean documentary, I felt no closer to really knowing the band. The year 2007 marked the 20th anniversary of the release of U2’s landmark album The Joshua Tree. U2s current world tour is, unusually, not to promote a new album - its for the 30th anniversary of The Joshua Tree and they are playing this album in its entirety, along with other songs before and after. W here the Streets Have No Name is one of the greatest works in music historyone of only a handful of pop songs that reveals that a four-piece band can compose a sonic. Unexpectedly, U2 have also tempered their textural post-punk with American influences. Call me crazy, but I'd rather not listen to how great an artist thinks his/her work is during a documentary. The album might not be as magnificent as the masses claim, but it’s not without its share of magnificence. So it might seem a little ironic that U2 became superstars on the back of such a dark record, but their focus has never been clearer, nor has their music been catchier, than on The Joshua Tree. However, most of it was from each member of the band and those involved with the making of the album. I wouldn't have minded had this been coming from critics. I was severely disappointed by how much of the discussion was dedicated to how ahead of its time the album was, how timeless it will be, and how other (and others') music doesn't measure up to it. So, maybe I watched 'The Joshua Tree' documentary with too many expectations.
